    This is a must watch if you use Lithium batteries, which is pretty much all of us. There are q number of things you can do and selections you can make to help manage the hazards. When they fail...they fail very quickly. Manage the dangers whenever you can. We don't even think about these things but even the cheapest, small device can ruing our lives. No need to watch if you don't have when in your home...but for the rest of the 99% of us...watch and learn. This vid is not designed to convince you to avoid at all cost. It just talks about what dangers there are and how to limit your exposure.

      Thanks for your comment. We certainly learnt an awful lot whilst putting the webinar together. Knowledge which can be applied both at home and on the boat, in fact - to every day life in general. It's really interesting to understand the different chemistries that are used in the batteries too, and how the different types of lithium battery have different performance and safety parameters. We've all now purchased charging bags and got rid of broken charging cables!

    If you have small ship registration part one ( big ships) for your yacht that's the same as title deeds which provides tax cover at purchase. We found that out when transferring from UK to Irish registration we were worried about not having proof of VAT

    Been around three times to date from Portland, clockwise via the canal in 2017, anti-clockwise around the top 2018, and clockwise around the top in 2022, twice up and down east coast of Ireland and once up coast of wales /Isle of man. The Orkneys (Stromness) is a good place to stay and visit the island. Only a short trip to or from Wick. Although be patient for a good weather, and tide window, if travelling through the Pentland Firth!!

    Very helpful impulses regarding energy on board in general. I missed distinction between needs for blue water sailing and coastal sailing. E.g. load dumps are much more serious when you are 1000 miles off a coast. Also external vs. internal BMS is a topic here.

    I have been round clockwise twice single handedin 31 ft yacht taking 12 weeks. I went along the French coast to St Peter Portthen to Falmouth. I spent sometime in Guernsey with my family when they flew over to see me for 10 days then went home. The cost both times was £ 3500 I never anchored. I went via Cally canal I crossed to Dunloghaire from Milford Haven & went up to ballycastle then to Croab & Oban & generally reverse of route in webinar. The first time I did not have a chart plotter & i am surprised that they were bothered about theirs not working. They are supposed to be a sailing school. Get the portland plotter & dividers out. I did not have charts other than C series & Only had a pack of folio ones for the scottish bit oban to Fort William. But I did have Reeds & the Imray pilots for the whole trip except my local east coast & the CIs ( I go there a lot so did not need one there)French coast is more of a sense of holiday & assured of berths & cheaper instead of south coast

    • @HavenKJ
      @HavenKJ 2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment Graham - lovely to hear about your journey and a great tip to go down to along the French coast. So many people have chart plotters these days which makes it an important thing to include when teaching - but we agree, nothing beats a chart and some dividers! For anyone reading this, Imray have a page dedicated to all the charts and pilots you might need for the journey here: www.imray.com/news/sail-round-britain/

    I have been to a lot of beautiful locations around the world over the years, including some of the big comercial cities and islands, but have never revisited any of them, apart from the 'glorious Ibiza'. It is an underrated and in many cases an 'overexposed' island due to its commercial and clubbing aspects. (although I have also previously enjoyed this aspect also of the island too). I got married there in the wonderful, scenic Hacienda Na Xamena in 2010. Putting this to one side, it is the most beautiful, magical, 'soul awakening and chilled places that I have ever visited and continue to visit over the past 22 years. I feel that I have grown with it...seeing it before the motorways with just dirt roads, super marinas, beach walkways, and Manumission was the main superclub and cafe del mar was the place to sit on the rock to see the sunset. It is great to see the islands government are putting the tourists money back into the island and that it will continue to the islands growth and improvements, also from a nature preservation point of view. I will continue to visit this wonderful place with the sometimes sad but also happy memories it hold for me. Just a wonderful place.

    John I really enjoy your touring films which inspire me to travel more when lockdown is over. Just a rough idea....how many days of fairish weather cruising at say 15-20 knot cruising would it take you to get from Falmouth to Northern Spain and also to Gibralter? Also what does the daily cost of marina plus fuel average out to in £ in very rough terms. Thank you. :)
